A Palestinian Leap of Faith

January 14, 2014

ItsBetterToJump_DVDKeyArtPlease join Conscientious Projector on Thursday, February 13, 7:00 p.m. at The Armory Center for the Arts for a screening of It’s Better to Jump.  Palestinians have lived in the ancient walled city of Akka, Israel for many generations, enduring hardship, injustice and economic stress. Now they are being pressured to give up their homes to make way for urban development, social change and the ongoing influx of Israeli settlers. Their individual and collective stories are featured in this month’s documentary.  The film’s title refers to the perilous rite of passage of leaping from the city’s highest wall (40’) into the tempestuous Haifa Bay, symbolizing Palestinian aspirations for self-determination, personal freedom and cultural preservation.

Filmmakers Patrick A. Stewart, Gina M. Angelone, and Mouna B. Stewart join us for a community discussion following the movie. The event is being cosponsored by All Saints Church’s Middle East Ministry. The Armory is located at 145 N. Raymond in Old Pasadena. Admission is free and the facility is accessible to disabled persons.
