Honeybees are disappearing around the world. This mysterious global phenomenon and its potentially devastating agricultural, ecological and economic implications are examined in this month’s Conscientious Projector feature, Vanishing of the Bees, on Thursday, November 10, 7:00 p.m. at The Armory Center for the Arts. Narrated by Ellen Page, the expertly researched and artfully crafted documentary follows dedicated commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they travel across the U.S., Europe, Australia and Asia in search of the causes and remedies for what has become known as Colony Collapse Disorder, which scientists warn could disrupt the pollination of crops that provide one out of every three bites of food on tables everywhere.
Co-director/producer/investigative journalist Maryam Henein will join us for our community discussion following the screening, which is being co-sponsored by EDEN (Environmental Defense of Earth Now). The Armory is located at 145 North Raymond in Old Pasadena. Admission is free and the facility is accessible to disabled persons.
